Duck River Bridge

STRUCTURAL

Fisher Arnold was charged with converting an existing vehicular bridge with a substandard sidewalk to a multi-modal trail bridge with vehicular lanes to comply with the requirements of a multi-modal TDOT Enhancement Grant for the City. This 300-foot-long three-span welded-plate girder bridge presented a number of challenges. The existing bridge deck required widening to accommodate the minimum widths of the 8-foot multi-modal trail and carry two lanes of vehicular traffic without disturbing the lead paint-covered girders. This bridge was analyzed utilizing the LRFR, Load Resistance Factor Rating Code. Fisher Arnold achieved the additional lane and walk width design while maintaining an acceptable load rating for TDOT requirements.
