Fisher Arnold began design work on this $13m project in 2014 at the request of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital due to their concern about the age of the existing pipe and its location in the heart of their campus. The goal was to relocate the pipe along A.W. Willis Avenue away from internal locations important to the long-range campus master plan. The City of Memphis took over the relocation and expanded it to include some pipes upstream from the main St. Jude campus. This project had several design challenges including utility obstacles, difficult tie-in points, rerouting sewer collection lines and designing the new line in a tight, urban environment.
