Park Avenue and Lamar Avenue Intersection Improvements

Memphis, Tennessee

Improvements at the intersection of Park Avenue and Lamar Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee, address an existing angled configuration that has historically presented safety and operational challenges. This highly visible location also serves as a key gateway into Orange Mound, a historically significant African American community.

Working in collaboration with the City of Memphis, community leaders, and the Accelerate Memphis Program, a comprehensive design solution was developed to enhance both safety and sense of place. Planned improvements include roadway realignment to correct the intersection geometry, as well as placemaking elements such as gateway signage, decorative banners, specialty paving, and an arbor with integrated seating at a transit stop.

Fisher Arnold provided a full range of services for the project, including surveying, master planning, landscape architectural design, signalization design, and roadway design. The result is a cohesive approach that not only improves traffic functionality but also celebrates the community’s identity and strengthens its presence as a gateway corridor.
