Memphis, Tennessee
The Park Avenue and Lamar Avenue Intersection Realignment project was developed to improve traffic operations and safety by correcting an existing skewed intersection in Memphis, Tennessee. Located at a key gateway to the historic Orange Mound community—one of the nation’s oldest African American neighborhoods—the project was designed to enhance mobility while celebrating the area’s unique cultural identity and history.
In addition to the roadway realignment, the project incorporated a variety of placemaking and streetscape elements intended to create a welcoming gateway experience. Proposed improvements included gateway signage, decorative banners, specialty paving, a custom arbor feature, and a seating area integrated with a bus stop to enhance comfort and accessibility for transit users. Together, these improvements strengthen the visual character of the corridor and create a more inviting public space for residents and visitors alike.
Fisher Arnold collaborated with the City of Memphis, community stakeholders, and the Accelerate Memphis Program to develop a comprehensive design that balanced transportation improvements with community-focused enhancements. Services provided by Fisher Arnold included surveying, master planning, landscape architecture, signalization design, and roadway engineering.
