Fisher Arnold was retained by the City of Memphis to design one of the first Protected Intersections in Tennessee. While commonly used in Europe, we are just starting to see these safety improvements implemented in the U.S for bicycles and pedestrians. The intersection of Mississippi Blvd and South Parkway East in Memphis will be improved to include a new traffic signal while incorporating Protected Intersection design based on NACTO, AASHTO, and TDOT standards. The intersection design will reduce the distance bicycles and pedestrians must travel in conflict zones and improves safety.
